The ranch and cattle scenes were filmed on Alfred McMurtrys ranch
Hi Ronnie,
Do you have an idea as to where that ranch was/is located?
Thanks.
Alfred is Larrys cousin, had some great stories about filming
I found Claude 20 years ago after watching Hud one day and decided on my way back from Ca to find this little town. When I got there I met an interesting local who was part of the cast and now was in charge of Claude’s movie theater where they premiered HUD. He played checkers w Paul every night after filming and had lots of great stories. I’m going through Claude tomorrow and will see if the gentleman is still there.
Did you find the man?
The Ranch was located outside of Clarendon. My great Aunt lived there most all of her life with her husband. They never had children. I have slept in that bunkhouse that’s in the movie and in the other two homes. I spent a lot of time there as a child.
The ranch house is located in the community of Goodnight. Where the famed rancher, Texas ranger and cowman, Charles Goodnight is buried. There now is a historical marker related to Goodnight on the highway. I spent many a day there – my grandparents lived down the road to the cemetery. My cousins a watched the filming of HUD. I was too young to go!
