Not to be a downer, but I am a bit skeptical that East 27th Street is the location of the coffee shop. The street in the film is clearly a two-way street (27 is one-way) and there doesn’t seem to be any similarities in the architecture that matches the film.
I think the contributor got his info from an article at http://abc7ny.com/entertainment/a-fun-way-to-spend-christmas-eve-be-buddy-the-elf-for-the-day/1133820/, which names Birch Coffee on E 27th simply as an “Elf-inspired” place to go for a cup of java.
The coffee shop is – or was – at 20 E Hastings Street in Vancouver, Canada. Not sure why unless other parts of the movie were filmed there, but it’s boarded up and full of graffiti now. It does match to the movie though.
Holy hell!
That’s a surprise if I’ve ever seen one!
Many, many thanks!
Jovie’s place is also in Vancouver. I forget the address, but it’s in the Chinatown area.
